Laura

Laura signed up to get a job this summer through One Summer Chicago and we were able to place her with one of our partners, Life Changing Community Outreach (LCCO). She worked with Yvette McKinnie and her staff to give children a safe and educational summer camp experience.

Before starting the summer program, she was trained not only in best practices for caring for children, but also what it means to be professional, how to have good communication between co-workers and how communicating well makes all the difference in creating a healthy work environment.

One of her biggest takeaways from her summer job experience was more personal as she learned to think about managing her finances. The classes she took through our program also taught her about finances, credit, loans, banking, and how to do her taxes.

While the summer jobs are temporary, they make a huge impact on our young adult clients and help set them up to be successful as an employee. At the end of the summer, Laura received a job offer to continue her work with the program at LCCO.
