James

James was referred to us by one of our partners in March of 2022. He had several certifications as a forklift operator but was struggling to find employment. His employment coach, Eleanor, worked with James to strengthen and update his resume, making it more concise.

As part of our intake process, they went through the discovery process to identify types of jobs he might be interested in pursuing. Initially, he was focused on manufacturing, construction, carpentry or getting his CDL license to drive. While he was still looking for a job as a forklift operator, James went on several interviews and to a job fair with our employment partner, Pactiv, where he soon started a job on the night shift.James is still looking to grow and is motivated and excited by his current position. His supervisor is pleased with his work and they’re already discussing what promotion opportunities are available.

James expressed that he was so encouraged by the support of his employment coach at One On One. He also shared that while taking the soft skills courses we offer, he “felt motivated by that, [One On One] just assisting me, helping me, not just putting me off and going to the next person, that’s what I liked about One On One, the consistency and help and not putting me off just to get to the next person.”
