Taylor

For the past three years, we’ve partnered with One Summer Chicago to support youth employment opportunities. In addition to providing training and placement services for over 300 youth in partnership with other local organizations, we also host interns directly at One On One. Even amidst the pandemic, One Summer creates a valuable learning opportunity to equip our youth for the workforce and provide experiential learning opportunities in a business environment. We had the pleasure of hosting Taylor for the past two summers as an intern directly with One On One.

Taylor grew up on the Westside of Chicago and is passionate about her community and the people in it. Taylor recently graduated from high school and this fall, she is a freshman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since the eighth grade, she’s known that she has wanted to pursue a degree in Psychology. She’s excited to begin her program, and as she shared with us, she’s ‘always wanted to know how people think about things’. In addition to the independence of college and the experience of living on her own, she’s excited about meeting new people and having new experiences during college. In fitting with her passion for people and communities, in the future she hopes to be able to travel and explore new places and cultures.

Taylor shared with us that one of the most valuable parts of her two summers spent with One On One was the opportunity to learn how to manage herself through stressful situations. She now feels confident in how to organize her time while also meeting multiple deadlines, a skill that will prove valuable in her collegiate career.
