Pierre
Pierre was traveling down King Drive when he saw the One On One sign in our office window. He was looking for a job, so he gave the office a call and started meeting regularly with an employment coach.
Pierre had more than 15 years of experience in the security field. After he was assaulted on the job, Pierre took some time off to decide if he wanted to continue working in security. He had been out of work for 4 years when he came to One On One, and was interested in exploring a new career path that was safer for him than security. His employment coach discussed potential job opportunities with Pierre, and the company Aramark caught his eye.
When working with his coach, Pierre navigated applying for jobs online for the first time. Previously, he had gotten all of his jobs either through in-person or paper applications.
Pierre said his coach was very helpful throughout his job search by providing resume assistance, interview preparation, and other resources. He said that his coach was easy to talk to and call on when he needed help.
“He (my coach) provided me with resources I didn’t have, opened new doors, possibilities, and windows.”
Pierre applied for a position with Aramark online and was invited to attend an in-person hiring event. His employment coach helped him prepare for the interview. At the hiring event, Pierre was hired on the spot for a maintenance and housekeeping position at Navy Pier. He has now worked in this role for over a year.
When re-entering the workforce, Pierre said it took a little time to readjust to working regularly, but he was ready to get back to work. He enjoys the work schedule (he works the third shift) and the rate of pay at his job.
Moving forward, Pierre will continue to work with his coach to find new job opportunities that allow for upward mobility.
